Frequently Asked Questions
Due to the established benefits of group interaction for SEL acquisition, all MEE Company courses meet in person. We partner with schools, churches and community centers to teach these classes.
At The MEE Company we pride ourselves on optimizing SEL learning conditions. With this in mind our classes are kept very small. Given the large need for SEL instruction in Central Ohio (and beyond) and so few providers we cannot in good faith have empty seats. As a result, we offer no refunds.
The group interaction is key for successful integration of all material offered through the MEE Company. In the event that a student absolutely must miss a class (life happens!), take-home materials for that class will be offered. No refund for said class will be issued.
The MEE Company is based on best practices around SEL learning/training. As such, we will keep our class-sizes to twelve or fewer students.
At the conclusion of each class daily, we anticipate sending an email to the adult(s) listed on the registration form with highlights of the curriculum points covered. While we believe it is beneficial for parents to engage with their teens on SEL content as a rule, we advocate for a lighter touch while the student is actively enrolled/attending MEE Company classes ~ allowing the student to have their own unique and rich experience.
During their experience with us at The MEE Company, your student can expect a transformative journey filled with a balanced mix of individual and group activities. They will engage in reflection, gain practical tools to navigate stressful times, and develop essential skills for personal growth. Our program aims to create an enriching and enjoyable experience that equips students with a toolkit to manage challenges with confidence. With a focus on mindfulness, brain retraining and SEL learning, we foster an interactive and inclusive environment where students can feel safe to explore these sensitive topics.
Discovering the success of your teen's transformative journey with The MEE Company is a paramount concern for us. We firmly believe that the skills we impart are not only applicable from the very beginning but also leave an indelible mark on their lives, fostering personal growth and empowering them for years to come. While the true impact of these skills may not always lend itself to easy quantification, we have devised pre and post exercises that act as valuable tools, allowing us to track their progress and gain valuable insights into their development.
We understand that measuring the growth and progress of your teen's newfound skills can be a challenging endeavor. That's why we often compare their experience in our Compass Class to the act of planting seeds. Just as a skilled gardener patiently sows the seeds, nurturing them with care and providing the right conditions for growth, our instructors dedicate themselves to
guiding and cultivating the potential within your teen. It is a process that requires time, dedication, and a nurturing environment. And much like the seedling that gradually emerges from the soil, your teen's growth may not always be immediately visible. However, with the passage of time and the right consistent use of their new tools, skills will flourish blossoming into a beautiful garden of their true potential.
At The MEE Company, we believe in empowering students to take ownership of their progress and growth. We understand the importance of fostering an intuitive muscle that enables them to evaluate their own development. Throughout our program, we encourage students to measure their own progress, equipping them with the tools to assess their progress. By instilling this self-reflective mindset, we aim to build a foundation of independence and self-reliance, ensuring that the value they derive from their experience extends beyond their time with us.
While both therapy and SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) training are valuable approaches to personal development, they have distinct focuses and methodologies. Therapy typically addresses deep-rooted issues, trauma, and psychological challenges, often involving a retrospective exploration of one's past to promote healing and understanding. In contrast, SEL training takes a future-facing approach, concentrating on developing essential skills and competencies to meet future needs and goals.
Therapy delves into past experiences, aiming to uncover and address unresolved emotional wounds, traumas, or mental health conditions. On the other hand, SEL training is designed to equip individuals with the practical tools and skills necessary to navigate various aspects of life successfully. It focuses on fostering self-awareness, emotional intelligence, resilience, empathy, and healthy relationship-building. SEL training empowers individuals to develop the necessary social and emotional competencies to manage stress, make responsible decisions, set and achieve goals, and communicate effectively.
While therapy and SEL training may share some overlapping principles, such as promoting self-reflection and personal growth, they differ in their objectives and approaches. Therapy primarily targets deeper psychological issues and provides therapeutic intervention, while SEL training cultivates social and emotional skills to enhance overall well-being and success.
At The MEE Company, our programs center around SEL training, emphasizing the development of crucial skills for future needs and aspirations.
